Alan Metcalfe was one of a handful of hardy souls who relaunched Australian rules football in North West Queensland in 1967. The code was originally founded in the early 1960s but faded out with the great Mt Isa Mines strike.
Metcalfe, John Cargill and others set about establishing four new clubs and one one of the most unique football leagues in Australia.
Metcalfe commenced his football involvement with the North Cairns Tigers as a junior player under the guidance of the legendary King Watson.
